Meditating Mom

First aired 5/12/2007
What about mothers who decide that the business of motherhood shouldn't separate them from the divine -- and who leave the kids at home (hopefully supervised) while they themselves go off in search of salvation? Doesn't God frown on that, we ask ourselves. Or we would, if we weren't Unitarian Universalists?

Reporter Santosha Kuykendall (of First Universalist) talks to a devoutly Buddhist friend who, this year, took part in a month-long silent meditation retreat at a Dharma center in another time zone -- a project that required her to leave her children at home with her husband for the entire month. How do you balance motherhood and religion when you take both very, very seriously?
